What is your position at TapMango? How has it evolved since you started?
I am the Human Resources Manager. I started my journey at TapMango as a Human Resources Associate in February 2022 and as the HR team changed and grew, so did my role!
What are some aspects of your role that you really enjoy?
I love that I get to interact with each employee in a different way on a day-to-day basis. Whether it’s just to answer questions that they have about HR stuff or just to chat about how things are going in their role – I am lucky enough to get the opportunity to learn a little bit about everyone on every team.
Describe your WFH desk situation?
I like to keep my main work area clear by having only one monitor along with my laptop on my desk (side note – I was able to purchase a new desk thanks to the TapMango home office reimbursement perk that we have!)
I have a pile of notebooks and sticky notes that I swap out based on the different projects I am working on, as well as a stack of HR-related reading materials that I can reference throughout the day.
On the wall in front of my desk, I have a corkboard with some pictures hung up – my favourite being the ones from the 2022 TapMango Holiday Party photo booth, along with my 2022 Tappie’s Award Certificate (the TapMango employee award ceremony)!
If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
There are so many things that come to mind, but I think I would go with a plate (or two!) of my mom’s chicken curry and roti. She makes the BEST curry ever, and I swear I’m not just saying that because she’s my mom!
What is something your work colleagues don’t know about you?
I am an open book no matter who I’m talking to so most people at TapMango know everything there is to know about me, but something that I haven’t really talked about directly is that I am a serial hobbyist. I am constantly in a cycle where I pick up a new hobby, learn everything about that hobby, dedicate all my free time to that hobby, and then forget about it when something new grabs my attention. Some of my past hobbies include crocheting, painting (watercolour, gouache, and paint-by-numbers all at different times), building miniature dioramas, and most recently the Sims 4.
What is one piece of advice you would tell 8 year old you? (on career pursuit, life, laughter and love)
I would tell 8 year old Leah to stop being a people-pleaser in every aspect of her life. I would tell her she needs to learn to say “no” more often and to put herself first.
Top 3 binge-worthy shows, book series, or movies? (And Why?)
I only have shows and movies on my list because a lot of the books I read are not in a series so not really “binge-worthy.” So my top 3 binge-worthy shows and movies (in no particular order!) would be:
1. Community – one of my favourite TV shows. It’s so funny with a great cast and a lot of their episodes parody other shows and movies, or just pop culture in general.
2. Back to the Future – one of the best trilogies ever. It’s just so fun!
3. Any Mike Flanagan show (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, etc.) – I LOVE all of his shows. I love being scared and I love that all of his shows has some sort of deeper meaning.
